Pokemon Legends Arceus is a breath of fresh air, and I great way to start the year off. The world that pokemon exists in has always been a huge part of Pokemon. However, this game is different as it is a unique transferable world to explore.
In this article, I will rank my own personal list of the best areas in the game. Each of them is unique and has new varieties of pokemon to interact with.
Number 6: Crimson Mirelands
The Crimson Mirelands are rather uninspired, as most of it is boring swamplands. The area is mostly a group of puddles with pokemon wading about. The pokemon are pretty cool with some of my favorites like Tangrowth, Goodra, and Gastly all being found here. However, the area has a lot of crossover with quite a bit of other areas.
Despite this, the area is home to Lake Valor and the Scarlet Bog. The rest of the zones are really similar and kind of forgettable. This was the area I spent the least amount of time in, and I had very little desire to go back to.
Number 5: Jubilife City
Jubilife City is not a normal area, but I felt a need to include it as it is distinct. I really do think it is a cool hub area to explore. The problem is that it is a chore to get around, and most of the stuff there is kind of tedious.
It is a fun idea to see how the central city in the original Diamond and Pearl started, but the city is too small to do much fun in. Despite this, the design of the buildings is cool, and immediately sets the tone of what the world will be like. However, the best part of the area is the pasture where you can all of your pokemon.
Number 4: Coronet Highlands
This is where the areas start to become really enjoyable! However, the Coronet Highlands could have been improved quite a bit. This is a mountainous area that really does feel like you are scaling to the peak. This area feels expansive, and as you move to the top the pokemon become stronger and stronger.
Some of the pokemon in the area include Gible, Rotom, and Nosepass. However, you will see a lot of overlap between this and the Alabaster Iceland. Besides that, you will first see these pokemon appear in this area.
Number 3: Cobalt Coastlands
I love a good beach area, and this is no exception. This area is a delightful cove with so many fun pokemon scattered around the beach. However, what makes the area so great is all of the little islands scattered around the ocean. Some large bodies are kind of boring to explore because the islands are just small patches of nothing.
However, the best part of the area is the little volcano island where you fight the area’s boss. While the boss was one of the easier I thought the whole vibe was great. Despite this, the area has some shortcomings.
I find the cove to be really similar all of the ways around. However, the core design is solid enough that it is worth exploring.
Number 2: Obsidian Fieldlands
A good starting area sets a good tone for the rest of the game. I would say that the Obsidian Fieldlands meets that standard. It is a great little tutorial for the game and really brings you into the world of the game. The area has so many cool little zones and found myself playing this area for hours and hours.
The pokemon that the area has been okay. The pokemon are a lot of early game fodder that you are not going to be excited to collect. Despite this, the area is home to some of the coolest pokemon as well.
Number 1: Alabaster Icelands
This area is one of the best in any pokemon game. A lot of the areas feel loosely tied to the Diamond and Pearl world, but this one feels deeply connected. Snowpoint city and temple are my favorite areas of the original Diamond and Pearl, and this area feels like you are making the trek to those areas.
Beyond the feel of the area, it has an amazing set of pokemon. So many iconic creatures can be found here, and this is where they are extremely tough. While this is mostly an Ice level it is still very diverse in the landmarks of the area. Whether it is the underground ice cavern, snowpoint temple, large ice plateaus, or flowing waterfalls every portion feels unique.
This area is also home to the most challenging boss battle in the game, and really is a check to make sure you are worthy to fight the final boss.
