5 Classic Entry Level Board Games

Board games and tabletop games are a great way to spend time with friends and families. However, it is difficult to figure out where to start in the hobby. This can be dependent on a lot of factors, and I will help you out with that decision

Magic the Gathering

Raising a New Banner | MAGIC: THE GATHERING

Magic the Gathering is probably the most intimidating game on this list. The game has been around for 20-plus years. However, this reputation is undeserved. Magic the Gathering is very easy to pick up at a casual level. If you buy two starter decks you can play a 1v1 game right out of the box.

Magic the Gather is also the modular game on this list, as you can buy new cards or decks to make the game fresh again. I would recommend buying a starter kit or a bundle. This will give you plenty of cards to start off with and are very approachable to newcomers.

The game also has a variety of different game modes that are the perfect match for any group you play with.

Ticket to Ride

Ranked: Every Ticket to Ride map | Ars Technica

I have played this game with people who are 7 and people who are 70. It is a very easy game to pick up and is a great choice for families. However, the game is also strategically rich and has a lot of depth. Whether I played this with friends from college or my grandparents it has been a hit.

The game has also won awards for its great design of it. Ticket to Ride also has plenty of expansions that make the game better and fresher. I think some of these are less approachable, and I would recommend the original Ticket to Ride to newcomers.

Catan

Catan for Nintendo Switch gets official release date - 9to5Toys

Catan is probably the most classic board game in the community. It is a game that is a little heavier than Ticket to Ride, but it is strategic and replayable. The board game can be changed if you need the game to be different. However, Catan is also easy enough for a new player to pick up in 3-4 turns.

Catan is the go-to game for a lot of beginner board game groups. Despite this, the game is often sidelined as the group wants to get into more strategic games. That isn’t a problem, as the game still remains a great starter

Telestrations

Makeover Challenge Concept Reveal: Designtology - BXP Magazine

Telestrations is probably the best social party game I have played. It is very easy to get started and have a great time. The game is simple as all the players need to do is draw and guess. This makes the game great for all age groups.

Telestrations is also great for starting out a game night, as they can get people in the mode for playing more intense games. The game is also casual enough to break out at a kickback. This game also relies on the creativity and imagination of the players which is always fun

Sushi Go

I first played this game at a Burger joint waiting for our food to get there. This made me realize how great this game is to play for short periods of time or while you are waiting. The game is quick and also not that complex. However, it is deep enough to make the game pass by quickly.

Sushi Go is great to break out when you are waiting for everyone to show up, or when you are waiting for the Pizza to get there. I have always had a good time with this game.
