Marvel Future Revolution Review

Marvel Future Revolution is Marvel’s first entry into the open-world RPG genre on mobile devices. Despite being one of the best-looking mobile games around still falls into the pitfalls of the genre.

Several versions of Earth are colliding, and the heroes of the Marvel universe have to stop this event from happening. The story is convoluted, and not something I cared about following at all. However, you do get to play as a fun group of heroes. I picked Doctor Strange because he was one of the few enjoyable characters in the tutorial mission.

Before I start getting into more negative aspects of the game I will concede that the game does look fantastic, and pushes the mobile platform to the max. However, my phone was heating up while playing and might be non-functional on older phones.

A huge grind

The game is all about grinding for levels and resources. The missions are common MMO tasks of killing enemies, killing bosses, and running around open areas. I would say that this is not a horrible gameplay style, but it is not my cup of tea. However, I have played games that have done this correctly.

The first couple of areas were fun, and I found myself somewhat interested in viewing the levels as they come along. Despite this, I began to lose interest after the 3rd area, as they all felt the same.

I played the game without paying money and was able to have fun, and didn’t feel priced out. Every challenge could be solved by grinding new items and doing the same ability rotations. I have plenty of downtime to play a mobile game but after a while the app became dormant.

Trying to find a silver lining

I don’t mind a grind, but it needs to have a purpose. I never felt like I was learning anything just doing slightly more damage. The problem with this game is that nothing felt like it had a purpose.

The game is free, so I feel bad talking about how bad it is. However, plenty of great free games are on the app store, and this is not one of them. I never felt excited at all.

One problem with mobile open RPGs is that the user interface is always too busy. In the bigger above is what the game can look like while you are playing. The game looks great, but most of the game is covered in text boxes.

In Conclusion

Marvel Future Revolution is close to being something. It feels like a generic open-world RPG, but with a Marvel coat of paint on it.

3.2

Plenty of content, but no content worth playing. No reason to play this game unless you absolutely love Marvel.
