The lego series of games have been one of the most consistent series. However, this game has shaken up the formula, but the game still feels similar.
The lego star wars games have always been the highlight, but this might be the best so far. It encapsulates all nine movies so well, and the content is almost a little too much.
Plenty of content
If you are not a fan of the Star Wars series then this game won’t hit in the same way. However, if you have seen the movies, you might enjoy them. Despite this, I think the game drags a little too much if you are not invested in the premise of a lego star wars game.
The game goes through all of the 9 films in the star wars franchise. Each film is then broken into five individual episodes. However, in your first playthrough, you have to go through a connecting segment between levels. These are boring, and I rushed through them.
The lego games are collectathons at the root. Whether it is characters, minikits, bricks, ships, and studs you will be searching for a lot of different trinkets. This is fun, but the Skywalker Saga almost goes overboard with all of the collectibles.
Beyond the levels, you also have an open world with different puzzles to earn bricks. These become a huge chore like a lot of open-world collectibles.
An epic saga
The levels are not all built equal. For every amazing level, you have a really awkward one like the Outmanned But Not Out-Gungan-ed which was pretty bad. Despite this, the game is the first lego game where boss battles actually feel good.
The biggest problem with the game is the amount of bugs it has. I had one where I was stuck on the loading screen, and it was because I accepted a quest in the open world,. This meant that I could never complete one of the levels in Episode 9.
The game really has too much content, and quality control is all over the place. In the process of writing this review I tried to do as much content as possible until I got burned out. I was only able to do around half of the bricks before giving up.
The bricks in the overworld have a lot of boring ones that you need to get. Despite this, you may have a higher tolerance for collectathons than me.
However, this game really is a love letter to Star Wars. Any character you can think of is in this game. What really makes the game fun is that the game will poke fun at the source material.
In Conclusion
The Skywalker Saga might be the ultimate star wars game ever. However, the game has too much extra stuff that isn’t worth doing. The good is really good, but the bad is pretty bad. Despite this, I had a really fun time playing the story and doing the challenges in each of the levels.
7.7
A lot of content that is mostly fun. However, quality control and bugs are all over the place. A must for star wars fans.
