Overboard is a game of trial and error, but sometimes you just want to figure out how the pieces fit together! This guide will give you the path to the ending where you get away with no blackmailers. The player needs to frame Lady Armstrong and convince Captain Anders to not rat you out. This is how to get the best ending in Overboard!
Overboard! is one of my favorite games of 2021 so far, and even if you get the best ending first plenty of other endings is worth replaying the game.
Setting the ground work
This run will start as any other run would with the steward waking Veronica in the morning. First, you want to tell the steward not to come in. This run requires a somewhat tight deadline to be done correctly. You only want to go to the bathroom and pick up the sleeping pills. Leave the room to the upper deck
Beating Carstairs to the Upper Deck
When you arrive to the upper deck you must look at the deck in order find your missing earring from the night before. However, if you arrive too late Carstairs is there and has already collected the earring. If you get to the deck before him he will try to talk to you after you pick up the earring. Carstairs will then offer to take you on a walk. However, you need to decline the offer for the sake of time.
Wait by the rails for a second and Captain Anders will come and talk to you. Talk to him briefly, and after the conversation follow him to the Bridge in order to set the wheels in motion.
Get the Passkeys from Anders
Anders is your unlikely ally in escaping the boat as a free woman. However, he needs a lot of convincing in order to bring him on your side.
First, you need “Wave to Anders” in order to get his attention. Through a string of conversations you want to get to the option “What’s that key?” You now need to follow a string of choices in order to get the key. Multiple paths can get you there, but this is an example. First “Can I borrow it?” then “Which pocket was that now” next “Maybe this one, then?” next “I’ll take very good care of it” next “I can be very persuasive you know” then finally you will be able to take the key.
Anders will ask you to meet in your cabin later. You can agree to it, but this doesn’t impact your case to my knowledge.
What is Ander’s Secret?
In order to find Ander’s Secret, you must go to Lady Armstrong’s room which is in the Forward Cabins. Normally this door is locked, but now with Ander’s passkey, you can open it. Open a book called “The Nine Tailors”, and read the pages. A photograph will fall out which is of Anders. This is the missing piece of the puzzle. Leave Lady Armstrong’s cabin and head back to the Bridge
Get Anders on your side
Show the photograph to Anders, and you will get a reaction from him. Instead of using the photo as blackmail you instead should give him the photo. Continue on the dialogue path until you select the choice “If you say you saw something, people will believe you”. This means you are now able to frame Lady Armstrong.
Lady Armstrong is one of the blackmailers, and with Anders on your side and Lady Armstrong out of the picture you are in the clear.
Finish it now
I suggest just ringing the bell. Doing more can hinder your case, and you have everything you need now.
At the meeting, you want to first say “He’s missing. Since last night.” Then when Clarrisa interjects you want to respond with “Why didn’t you tell anyone?” Then follow up with “It certainly wasn’t me.” and “That’s Horrible” then finally with “Me?”. Anders now comes in and accuses Lady Armstrong.
In response, you should pick “What were you doing up there?” then “Perhaps he turned down your advances.” After that, you should have your case, and get away with the best ending!
