Company simulator games are a pet favorite of mine, and combining this with auto chess games seems like a natural combination. However, if this game succeeds at that is still up in the air.
From what I was able to find Team Samoyed is a small indie team out of Korea, and this is the first game made by them. The amount of polish and thought put into the game is incredible for such a new team.
Teamfight Manager is a game that has two main parts. The first is a business simulator where you are an esports team coach who is assembling a team to go through the ranks.
The other part is an auto-chess-like game where you pick different champions and see your team play out a match. This has a surprising amount of depth, as new champions are added and new patches change the meta.
MOBA Esports Simulator
The game is clearly based on DOTA or League of Legends, and for anyone who played those games, it feels like a loving tribute. It feels like you are playing as your favorite esports team, and some of the players you recruit share the names of famous esports players.
This game was able to trap me for a good couple of hours, as a good simulation game should. The problem is that after a while each season feels the same. Good simulation games have a loop, and how good this loop is can determine how much a player devotes to the game.
The problem with Teamfight Manager is that the loop is too similar. It is testing out a new strategy or recruiting a new team. Then it is watching a whole season play out.
You take the good and the bad.
The game has a lot of flaws. However, I did enjoy the game quite a bit.
Despite all of this I have trouble giving this game a glowing review. The end of the season is a slog. However, the game is still being actively worked on by the team. Maybe if the game had better UX it would be perfect. The game needs a fast-forward button.
Will this happen is still in the air. Despite this, the game is a long way from being perfect. However, not everything needs to be perfect. Sometimes a great game is a great game. I have given great reviews to games that are far from perfect before.
Conclusion
Teamfight Manager is very fun but very repetitive. I was pushed by my love of esports and simulators to play. In conclusion, the game needs some work.
7.8
A great concept and great execution. Improvements to UX would bring this game to the next level.
