Why is Snatch Steal banned?

Snatch Steal was released in 2002 as a part of Spell Rulers. The card has a long history in the game, and in my opinion, is a part of the most puzzling ban list movement ever. However, this brings up the question “Why is Snatch Steal Banned?”

What does Snatch Steal do?

Snatch Steal is an equip spell card. The card can only be equipped to a monster your opponent control. However, you can now take control of that monster, but your opponent gains 1000 life points during their standby phase. It is pretty good, but it is too good. You can do anything you want with the monster while it is on your side of the field. The 1000 life point gain given to your opponent is not bad when you can steal their best monster easily.

When it was briefly unbanned

The card has been banned for most of the game’s history. However, the card was taken limited to one in January 2015. Despite this, the card was promptly banned again for good in the following ban list. It is just a card that is hard not to use. Taking a monster from your opponent to do with what you please is great, and because it is an equip spell you can easily search for it with Hidden Armory. It is the most puzzling move Konami has ever done in regards to the ban list. This happened during the period when Konami was starting to reconsider some cards that were on the ban list for a long time.

Can Snatch Steal be unbanned?

Nope. They already tried and it was a disaster. Spell Rulers was a set that was kind of a mistake in retrospect. The power level was too high, and despite it being released early on a lot of the notable cards of the set are still banned. The set included such cards as Confiscation, and Delinquent Duo as well as other pretty good cards that you should be familiar with.
